note #156

we have created an artifice of language, thoughts, and ideas upon which we have built our foundations of societies. with these things we have communicated to one another everything from the very basics of our being to the complexities of life itself. not just life at a cellular or atomic level, but life in its essence of interplays and intricacies, motions and emotions, actions and reactions - the very everyday things that we take for granted. yet these very things have progressively become complex, made more so each day by the very act of evolution.

for instance, I type this on a smart phone - a tiny computer that I could barely have imagined would exist in my life twenty years ago - while riding on a bus with complete strangers coming and going about me. I am in a city that sprawls itself over hills and water, full of people and animals and rules, teeming with inventions more intricate than past generations. here is a stone: it is round and it rolls. we perfect the shape and eventually we call it a wheel among other names. it evolves over time through different materials and iterations. eventually we find that this simple thing has become overly complicated, fraught with design reviews and supposed improvements.

we move in a world of complexities created over generations. no one is untouched. where once we created gods to explain the world around us, a horde of scientists work to explain it through study and quantification. we view everything through the filter of our own experience. we explain it in terms and concepts that those before us have made up.
