the sky to the south glows red, throwing the mountain into dark relief. fog banks to the east continue night in the valley. the earth seems to have turned on its axis overnight, though no other changes have occurred. no omens or portents appear. the city still glitters under its blanket as the sunrise turns brilliant pink and seeps east, guilding the undersides of the dark clouds.
